Overview

We strongly recommend that you hide the security rather than delete it, since deleting a security involves deleting all related transactions. Hiding the security will retain your transaction history for the security. Deleting these transactions removes important historical information about the security, such as the date the stock was purchased and sold.

Please be aware that deleting related security transactions may also affect reconciled investment account balances. Hiding a security with a large number of related transactions is much easier than deleting it.

Instructions

If you are certain that you no longer need the historical data associated with the security, start by finding and deleting all related transactions:

  1. From the Tools menu, choose Security List.
  2. Select Show Hidden Securities.
  3. Select the security which is to be deleted.
  4. Click Report to create a security report of all transactions for that security.
  5. Right-click in the Security Report window and select Preferences.
  6. In the Report and Graph Preferences window, on the left, select Reports only, then click to clear the QuickZoom to Investment Forms checkbox, and then click OK.
  7. In the Security Report, double-click the first transaction. This will open the investment account register with the transaction selected.
  8. Click Edit and choose Delete Transaction.
  9. Return to the security report and continue double-clicking to each transaction until all transactions are deleted.

Once all the transactions have been deleted, you can delete the security:

  1. From the Tools menu, select Security List.
  2. Select the security which is to be deleted.
  3. Click Delete.

Note: If you receive the message, "You can't delete this security because you've used it in one or more transactions," this indicates there are still existing transactions related to that security in the data file. Repeat the above steps for finding and deleting transactions or hide the security.
