Adding, Changing or Removing a Data File Password in Quicken for Mac

Overview

To protect your financial information in a Quicken data file from unauthorized changes, you can set up a data file password in Quicken.

Note: The data file password will not need to be entered to access the file on the mobile or web apps. 

Add a data file password

  1. In Quicken, go to File > Set File Password.
  2. Click Set Password.
  3. Enter a password.
  4. Enter the password again in the Verify field.
  5. Enter a hint to help you remember the password.
  6. Click Set Password.

After setting the file password, you can also select Allow Touch ID to unlock this file to use your fingerprint to access the file. 

Change your data file password

  1. In Quicken, go to File > Set File Password.
  2. Click Remove Password.
  3. Enter the existing password.
  4. Click Remove Password.
  5. Click Set Password and enter a new password.
  6. Enter the new password again in the Verify field.
  7. Enter a hint to help you remember the new password.
  8. Click Set Password.

Remove your data file password

  1. In Quicken, go to File > Set File Password.
  2. Click Remove Password.
  3. Enter the existing password.
  4. Click Remove Password.

What if I forgot the data file password?

You will need to use the Quicken Assisted Password Removal Service.
